The Idea of
Making a 3D Printer didn't struck us immediately. It all began when we were doing our Final Year
Project titled "Methodology of Reduction of Blowholes in Castings".
During this time we were working in various foundries to find methods to reduce
blowholes in castings, here we observed that Foundries were having a tough time
to make patterns for Mould Making
process. Patterns we made from various materials like plastic, wood and
Metals. Pattern making process was very tedious and time consuming. It took
days and sometimes even weeks to make patterns and without pattern no casting
can be made. Also pattern makers would charge heavily thus foundries suffered huge Financial and
Time losses.
It was
during this time we thought about finding a process that would make pattern
making easy and economical. Thus we browsed net and came across the world of 3D
Printing. 3D Printer was the solution of all the problems which were faced by
Foundries for pattern making. There were many Companies across the world that
provided 3D Printers. Worldwide specially in Developed countries 3D Printers
were widely used, People of that countries had lot of Awareness regarding this
Technology. On the other hand awareness regarding 3D Printers was Sparse in
India. There were only few companies in India which provided 3D Printers, but
they were very costly. We carried out feasibility study regarding 3D Printers
and Decided to make one.

Thus we took
challenge of making a 3D Printer in our
Final Sem Project. We wanted to make a 3D Printer which can be afforded by
Small Foundries as well as Industries thus we locally sourced parts for our
printer and fabricated them ourselves. We did lot of experiments and made our
own design of 3D Printer. After working for nearly 3 Months our 3D Printer was
ready.
